Yeah, I thought that peer pressure might not work for natural childbirth. But, maybe a few facts can help you to choose to birth in the way I consider to be the best way to bring a child into the world. There are tons of good reasons to birth naturally, both for the mother and the child. Here are some of the reasons that I chose to birth naturally, and that I encourage all women to consider it:
- It is safe. There is absolutely no danger in birthing this way.
- It is cool. Yeah, it actually is pretty cool to experience birth fully. There are no words to describe it, but it will definitely change you forever.
- You will be in control of the birth and will be able to push the baby out on your own and hold him or her immediately after birth.
- There is no risk of permanently damaging your child’s brain with toxic drugs.
- There is a hugely smaller risk of cesarean and instrumental delivery when birthing naturally. Both of these types of birth can damage a woman’s body, as well as harm the baby.
- There is no risk of long term effects of the drugs on the baby’s development or behavior such as ADHD or autism, or other learning disabilities.
- Baby is less fussy.
- Baby will be more alert and able to breastfeed and bond immediately after birth.
- Hospital stay is shorter, or better yet, you can birth in the comfort of your own home.
- It is cheaper.

Natural childbirth is not the easy way out, but there really isn’t an easy way out, as far as I am concerned. It is a gift. It is a way for you to give birth to your child in the most nurturing way possible: drug free and with little or no medical intervention in most cases. It is also a chance to connect with your self and experience the true power and beauty of being a woman. I totally agree! After giving birth naturally twice(last time was 2 months ago!), I wouldn’t want it any other way…
I am 4 months pregnant..
I want to have a natural childbirth but my husband is really freaked out about me having a natural childbirth because he doesn’t want to see me hurt.
But from everything I have read I see that if I can do it that way it will be much much better for me & the baby.
Hey Nevett! I am happy to hear that you are considering natural childbirth. You are definitely on the right track with doing your research. It is much easier when you know what to expect. I used The Bradley Method (also called Husband Coached Childbirth) for two of my births. I basically just read the book and did the exercises at home with the hubby. This method give the hubby a role in the birth so that he can help out and doesn’t feel so out of control during the birth. My husband was a little freaked out too! His previous wife and he had two children, who were both born with an epidural. She was totally un-prepared for birth, and made it seem horrible. (The epidural hurt her as much as the labor itself, he said. They also botched it and she had terrible headaches and back pain for a long time.) He could not see how a woman could make it through without the meds!
But, with our births, he saw how a woman can work with her body. He gave me massages and helped with my slow, rythmic breathing. It was a huge bonding experience, and he said that he even bonded with the children more easily because of it. I wish you the best of luck, and offer my advice on any subject you need help with.
