Morning sickness has definitely got to be the worst part of pregnancy. I experienced more of an all-day-and-night-for-four-months kind of morning sickness with my first two children. Then, when I had my third and saw a midwife for my care, she told me about some natural remedies for morning sickness. I did not try them all, but eating a high-protein snack (I drank 20 oz of milk with Carnation Instant Breakfast) before bed and eating more frequently helped me greatly! I also gave up certain vegetables for a while. Things like lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes just upset my stomach too much. I went from vomiting several times a day to just some mild nausea occasionally. Here are some other things that might help:

- Eat more often. This is the most common problem. Eating often will raise your blood-sugar and dilute the hormones that make you feel sick.
- Eat crackers or toast while still in bed. Adding cheese may also help. (This never worked for me.)
- Eat a high protein snack before you go to bed at night.
- Drink 8 oz of organic white grape juice before getting out of bed.
- Take vitamin B6 tablets. Take 100mg at bedtime, 50mg at breakfast, and 25mg throughout the day, about every three hours (up to 250mg daily)
- Stop taking your other vitamins for a while, until morning sickness passes.
- Drink red raspberry leaf tea or peppermint tea.
- Heat one cup of sea salt for three minutes on the stove and put it in a pillowcase. Fold the pillowcase over and lay it on your stomach (NOT WOMB) during periods of nausea.
- Consider taking a digestive enzyme tablet with each meal or add acidophilus every morning before food intake.
- Try getting some fresh air and exercise. Walking a mile each day will do you good throughout your pregnancy.
- Try homeopathic remedies and herbals. You can readily find all of these at your favorite herb store or online. These are some that are highly recommended for morning sickness:
- Homeopathic Nux Vomica (for sudden spasm of bitter-tasting vomit), Ipecacuanha (for constant and persistent nausea, absence of thirst), Sepia (lack of appetite, low dragging abdominal pain, craving sour or salt), Lacticum Acidum (often pale with much hunger, thirst, and burning throat and chest). Use as directed.
- Wild Yam Root helps balance hormones that cause morning sickness. It comes in caplets and in tinctures. I would recommend the tablets because the tincture contain pure grain alcohol.
- Dandelion root tea calms the stomach and is good for the liver. Drink up to two cups daily.
- Chamomile tea relaxes the stomach and supports the liver and improves appetite. It also reduces anxiety and tension. Sip up to 2 cups daily.
I hope some of these work for you. I know that morning sickness can be terrible, but it does pass, usually by the fourth month. Remember, too, to listen to your body. Certain foods and smells can trigger morning sickness. Don’t eat or drink something that your body tells you not to, and get rid of any strong smelling things that trigger your morning sickness. Please let me know if any of these work for you, or if you have had success dealing with morning sickness. Other women are DYING to know!

Hi Stacey,
I have the type of morning sickness you described…I cannot keep anything down- I lost 30lbs last pregnancy. Anyway,, this time around I’m a little more prepared. I’ve done most of what you recommended in the first part- I tried to start my day with Instant Breakfast (love that stuff) and would always puke it right up! Great idea for nighttime tho’ can’t wait to try this! The Homeopathic’s I did not try and am going to- also I was taking Pepcid AC (previous pregnancy) but am going to start taking the acidopholis for this pregnancy. Never really liked the idea of taking Pepcid AC. I saw 2 MW’s my last pregnancy and one used to be a prior labor and delivery nurse and worked in the hospital setting for yrs. and yrs. before becoming a MW- so she was a little more conventional…the MW’s I saw from 38 wks. on- were completely holistic and I loved that!!! They were the ones who said they recommended Goji Berry Juice. I found Goji Berries but not juice. Hoping to get some today as well as some Sepia! Thanks so much for sharing. Off to drink my Red Raspberry leaf tea.
Great post!
Amazing. I’ll reccommend my friends to visit you. Will it be continued?
